Song For Kermit

Put on your makeup
and dress up right
I know it ain’t easy
To run a tight ship,
get em’ out on time
And be a people pleasey
Your fuzzy face is
More than just a
timeless memory
Can’t shake this feelin’ I get
From a catchy melody
Go west for a dream
And it ain’t what it seems
But you ain’t one to leave
Wakka wakka
So simple and green
But your lady’s so mean
You sing a sweet love song
You don’t look good ridin’ a bike
But you never give up on yourself
And you know that’s what I like
Go west for a dream
And it ain’t what it seems
But you ain’t one to leave
Wakka wakka
So simple and green
But your lady’s so mean
my world’s not that much different
than yours inside of the TV
maybe I’ll never know
If I’m laughin’ at you
or you’re laughin’ at me

It was a morning like every other
But I had come down with a fever
Mama said, “Baby,
you ain’t going to school today.”
I crossed my arms with pride
and sat down at the window in spite
of my little sickness
and all it was keeping inside
I thought about the day I’d miss
Friends playing my favorite games at recess
Never thought for a second
I would never ever see them again
That afternoon brought with it a sound
so loud it shook the whole town
Progression halted in an instant
They had no time to get out
Everyone ran in from the fields
ill prepared for such a heavy burden
All their children
Only recognizable by their clothes
When I asked Mama, “Why?”
As she wiped the tears from our eyes
All she could muster to say,
“He works in mysterious ways.”
I wondered why them and not me
I wish New London set me free
But I guess there are worse things
than to grow up alone
As I drive down this misty road
Its helps all of my memories unfold
when I stop at the faded stones
marked with spinning tops and yo yos
This is price that we paid
It’s only worth what we learn from our mistakes
These things have to happen
to pave the way for the rest of the world
A growing town stopped dead in its tracks
It all started from a spark and a flash
Smells so sweet now it sickens
to ensure this won’t ever happen again.

True Blue
04:52
|

You have a funny way about you
An irresistible intrigue.
And every time I’m with you.
There’s some place else I probably should be
Everywhere I go.
You seem to be following behind me
I just can’t break away
Your temptation is so inviting.
I tell myself I don’t want you
tell myself I don’t need you.
Time and time again
I tell myself I can’t have you
I just can’t trust myself around you
True Blue.
I know I’m a strong girl.
why do you make me so weak.
I made a promise to myself
And it’s a promise I have to keep
gotta get you outta my head
You’re more than outta site outta mind
I know do you’ll no good for me
But sweet love is so hard to find
I tell myself that I don’t want you
I tell myself I don’t need you
Time and time again.
I tell myself I can’t have you
I just can’t trust myself around you
True Blue.
I know if I give in.
I’ll beat myself up inside
How could a little taste so sweet
be worth losing all my pride
I can’t keep on resisting you
Though I’ve tried and tried and tried
How bad can a little bit be
Just this one itty bitty time
My hearts a danglin’ around you
Like a puppet on a string.
You’ve got such power over me
I fight it with every ounce of my being
You’re testin’ my strength
you know I want you so bad.
I’m always complicating these things
By only wanting what I can't have
I tell myself that I don’t want you
I tell myself I don’t need you
Time and time again.
I tell myself I can’t have you
I just can’t trust myself around you
True Blue.

Black El Camino
Did you ever see me?
When I came out of hiding
Why’d you still pass me by?
Though my memories are hazy
Enough to make a girl crazy
I still remember your Black El Camino
Black El Camino
Could you ever hear me
Was my voice just an echo
Of what you’ve heard before
Though my recollections
can’t reflect your intentions
I still remember your Black El Camino
If you could see me now
I’d like to think you’d be proud
But I won’t expect too much
Cause too much is never enough
Black El Camino
I have never ever been yours
But I can’t deny all
That you’ve handed down
And all of my questions
Will go on unanswered
I’ll always remember your
Black El Camino

Lazy Sun

Lazy Sun, if you wanna stay in
It’ll be just fine,
cause I don’t need your sunshine all the time
Lazy Sun, if you need me I’ll be being lazy too
Lazy Sun, if you’re bed is so warm
that you can’t show face,
I’ll just stay right in my shady place ‘cause
Lazy Sun, I’m okay being lonely today
You know Lazy Sun,
a lot of days I feel like you do
But time outs can only last so long
‘Cause we all got a job to do, like you
Lazy Sun, I gotta tell you the truth
The hazy shade, it ain’t-a-half as fun as you
So Lazy Sun, please tell me that it’s just for today
You know Lazy Sun,
a lot of days I feel like you do
But time outs can only last so long
‘Cause we all got a job to do, like you
Lazy Sun, you gotta come out and play
You’ve had long enough,
because tomorrow is the first of May
Lazy Sun, I guess I can give you today
‘Cause Lazy Sun, I’m okay with being lonely
only today

You know the saying that “No news is good news”
When it’s bad that’s always worse
I wish I knew the right thing to tell you
So you couldn’t hurt anymore
This is for someone who
I’ve never met
I don’t even know his name
I’m begging that someone to
Turn his head on this one and
You’ll live to fight another day
Everything happens for a reason
But this I can’t understand
And when I put it all together
It’s still something we never could have planned
This is for someone who
I’ve never met
I don’t even know his name
I’m begging that someone to
Turn his head on this one and
You’ll live to fight another day
All those empty things that people say
When they have nothing better
The silence is so loud.
You can’t go out this way
Well it ain’t over baby, til it’s over
But you were never the type to give up
And it’s the hardest thing you’ll ever do
But for me that’s enough
And this is for someone who
I have never met
I don’t even know his name
I’m begging that someone to
Turn his head on this one and
You’ll live to fight another day

Jillinda Palmer Los Angeles, California
Palmer finally comes into her own with her new debut EP, Lazy Sun. Her endearing vocals soar over a variety of styles, from the languidly dreamy country-pop of the album's title track to the sly and swanky, horn-laden New Orleans jazz of "Song for Kermit," where she could be describing her own music when she declares, "Can't shake this feeling I get from a catchy melody." —Falling James -LA Weekly ... more
